Bay of Bengal Low Will Move To Arabian Sea September 18, 2015

Bay of Bengal low pressure area September 2015The Indian monsoon is withdrawing but storm activity has begun in the Bay of
Bengal with a low pressure area forming. This system is going to hover around near the Andhra coast for the next 5 days bringing rains to peninsular India especially in Odisha, Andhra, Telangana and northern Karnataka.

The low will then traverse west through India and hop into the Arabian Sea on September 18, 2015. Increased rainfall is expected in Konkan coast by then.

The low in the Arabian Sea may intensify into a depression and will move close by the coast of Saurashtra till September 24.

After that it will swing back into the open sea and move to northeastern coast of Oman. It will be gradually weakening all that time so Oman may expect some showers by September 27.

The European Model too supports increased storm activity near the Konkan coast around September 18-20, but it is not as hopeful as the GFS that the system will intensify much.

The European model envisages another Bay of Bengal low/depression moving through Odisha, Chattisgarh, Bihar and onto Uttar Pradesh around September 22, but the GFS stays mum on the forecast.

So we see different forecasts by two computer models.

The point they agree upon is... A Bay of Bengal low pressure moving west reaching Arabian Sea around September 19, 2015. The rest is differing predictions.

The Bay Of Bengal System Will Bring Heavy Rains To Coastal Andhra and Karnataka

Expected Rainfall from Low Pressure in the Bay of Bengal from now till November 15, 2014

A low pressure system hovers in the Bay of Bengal now. It is going to bring heavy rainfall to southern Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and northern Tamil Nadu in the next few days. Winds of 30-45 Kph will lash southern Andhra coast tomorrow.

The system is looking for warm waters in the Bay of Bengal for energy. But the waters in Indian east coast have cooled. So the system will not develop into a significant tropical storm.

But the low pressure area is going to bring a deluge in southern coastal Andhra and northern Tamil Nadu and especially Puducherry when it makes landfall on November 13, 2014 [Thursday]. Puducherry will see rains in excess of 5 inches. So will Nellore District [Including Nellore city] of Andhra Predesh.

Heavy rains will be seen in central Sri Lanka and Kerala also. Northern coastal Karnataka will see a deluge too, especially Udipi district. The rest of the state including Bengaluru will receive showers. South India will feel the effects of the system till Sunday. Goa will get some showers.

Cyclone Hudhud is just a few hours from making landfall. Ground Zero will be Vijayanagaram and Srikakulam coast. The winds will be 175 Kph, gusting up to 210 Kph.The devastation is going to be massive. Because these kinds of winds are going to howl on for about 12 hours.

A TV channel met some coastal residents near Vizag who were wide awake throughout the night. When asked they said they had never heard such winds before and they were frightened.

The good news is that the storm is weakening slightly. At 5:30 in the morning it was at its peak, throwing up winds of 200-250 Kph when it was a few kilometers away.

The Andhra districts of Srikaulam, Vijayanagaram and Visakhapatnam will bear the brunt of Hudhud's fury. So will Malkangiri district of Odisha.

The effects will be felt in Pondicherry in the south and Bhubaneshwar in  the north. But Vizag will face the brunt of the storm as the center of the storm is going to pass through it.

#CycloneHudhud is going to be a big storm. Just when it will be a few hundred kilometers from the coast (On Saturday, October 11, 2014) it will whip up winds of 175-225 Kph.But at the time of impact on Vizag, mercifully, the winds will have reduced to a 150-185 Kph.

UPDATE: LATEST FORECAST SAYS CYCLONE HUDHUD WILL HIT ANDHRA COAST

Earlier we had said that upcoming cyclone Hudhud would make landfall at Orissa on October 11, 2014.

But latest forecasts say Hudhud's target has changed. Instead of Orissa, it is going to be the Andhra coast where the cyclone will strike on October 11, 2014.

Initially the system will remain depression but intensify into a cyclone as it approaches the Andhra coast.

We guess, IMD is not going to honor the storm with a name for a few more days.

Keep in touch for the latest updates.
