As 99W slowly intensifies in a deep depression and into tropical cyclone VARDAH by Friday, indications are it will hit the southern most part of Andhra Pradesh. Nellore seems to be the target. Data of impact? December 12, 2016.
This cyclone is not going to be monster as the HWRF model suggested a day ago. It is possible that by landfall it may weaken to a deep depression or depression. Not very windy. About 70-80 km/h winds at most. But lots and lots of rainfall in southern Andhra and northern districts of Tamil Nadu. Chennai may face a deluge on December 12-13, 2016.
VARDAH will be at its peak strength on December 11. Winds of 130-140 km/h. We are talking of 10 minute average winds here.
Some forecast models like the GFS and HWRF model predict a landfall on central Andhra coast but for the present, we stick to the Nellore possibility.
