Tokyo Stares At Typhoon LIONROCK

AUGUST 26, 2016, FRIDAY
Ii is now certain that North West Pacific Ocean typhoon LIONROCK is going to hit central Japan, very near capital Tokyo on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Mercifully the storm will have weakened considerably before landfall into the country.
The category 3 storm has sustained winds of 195 km/h, gusting upto 240 km/h. By Sunday they will intensify to over 200 km/h.

At 0000 hours GMT, August 26, the cyclone lay about 430 kilometres southeast of Naha, Okinawa island.

But contrary to earlier expectations LIONROCK did not turn into a super typhoon. But the Joint Typhoon Warning Center estimates it touching 110 knots, gusts upto 130 knots on Sunday.

When the weakened storm hits Tokyo on Tuesday shrieking 140 km/h winds will affect central Japan.

The tropical cyclone has done an abrupt about turn in direction. In the last few days it had been moving steadily in the general direction of Taiwan, giving the authorities a good cause of consternation. But LIONROCK as predicted is retracing its steps. On Sunday it will start curving in the direction of Japan.
